This past May I had the honor of being asked to teach as a "Florida's
Finest Plein Air Painting Ambassador" at Apalachicola's Forgotten Coast Paint Out festival.
My students, most of whom were fairly new new to oil painting outdoors, were wonderful, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all the other artists at the event better... and don't even get me started on the oysters! ;)
The only real downside was that the rigorous teaching schedule (three 2 hour one-on-one sessions a day for 5 days) didn't leave me with a lot of time (or energy!) left to paint for myself during the week, which was a little frustrating considering everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE you look there is amazing subject matter all around Apalachicola! Shrimp boats, marsh grasses, boat yards, old docks, overgrown cottages... the list goes on... Needless to say, I'll be back!
The above paintings are a few of the demos I did and a couple I managed to squeeze in in-between students.
