Cortez Sailboat

Cortez Sailboat
8"x10" oil on board

Painted this one over by the Cortez Kitchen on a beautifully sunny and warm Saturday morning. I couldn't resist the boat's reflections in the water!
It's kind of funny, I often get asked how I know when a painting is "done." With this one I'd worked on it for about 2 hours and was just about to wrap up when the owner of the boat climbed on board and began raising up its sails...
I took that as a pretty good indication that it was, in fact, done!

Early Evening Dune Shadows

 Evening Dune SOLD
11"x14" oil on canvas

So... trying to paint while my children are on Spring Break has proven a bit more difficult than anticipated.  Nevertheless, on Wednesday afternoon, while my husband and daughter spent some quality time together, my son agreed to come out with me and fly with his new trick kite as I painted. Returning to the beach on the north end of Anna Maria Island where I'd painted a couple days before, the dunes were beginning to cast their seemingly electric violet shadows from the opposite direction this time as the sun was making it's descent.
And with his new kite in hand doing loop-di-loops high in the sky and a fist-full of paint brushes in mine, I'm not sure who enjoyed the early evening beach outing more, my son or me?!

Just Another Manic Monday

Just Another Manic Monday SOLD
11"x14" oil on canvas

Today was the first "official day" of my kids' spring break, so while they sat around watching cartoons in their pj's till mid morning, I ducked out for a couple hours to capture the fleeting  shadows cast in the sand on the north end of Anna Maria Island as the sun began to rise.
I know... it's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it!

Breaking Point

Breaking Point
11"x14" oil on canvas

Painted this on Coquina Beach one morning last week, a study of water and waves.

Against the Tide

Against the Tide
4"x6" gouache on paper

A little painting sketch of my kids building a sand fort against the incoming tide last weekend. (Yes, it was a bit of a lesson in futility!) I do love how well they play together though, makes a mom's heart happy!
