Calm Waters

Calm Waters
11"x 14" oil on panel

Painted this one across the Bay in St. Petersburg, FL yesterday.  It was an absolutely gorgeous, warm, sunny April morning! A great day to be out on the water... or beside it painting sailboats! The dancing reflections of the tall masts and pylons on the water's surface caught my eye immediately. I only had enough quarters to feed the parking meter for 2 and a half hours- which in hind sight, forced me to work a bit more quickly and impressionistically! A fun endeavor...

Boat Dock Buddies

Boat Dock Buddies
6"x8" oil on canvas

Painted this morning at the Cortez Fishing Village. I loved the reflections in the water and the visual passages through space created by the wood pilings in this scene...

Sunday Morning Light

Sunday Morning Light
8"x10" oil on canvas

Painted from the same spot as I did the sunset the night before, just looking north this time, the dunes were a patchwork of color in the bright Easter morning sunlight!

Just Before Sunset

Just Before Sunset
8"x10" oil on canvas

Beginning a painting just before sunset can be as exhilarating as it can be challenging!

"Action shot!"

Sketchbook Page

Thought I'd share a page from my sketchbook... been playing around with my opaque watercolors again lately. (My daughter's always a good and willing model on the beach!)

Love This Time of Morning

Love This Time of Morning
9"x12" oil on gessobord

Oh how that fleeting light of sunrise, casting long violet shadows, calls to me! Painted this on the south end of Anna Maria on Coquina Beach.

Never really thought about how beautiful pond scum floating on the water could be...?
