Paintings from July 6th-9th

Sandbar, AMI 9x12 oil on gessobord

A popular restaurant and beach wedding spot on the north end of the island, the Sandbar Restaurant has been the subject of several paintings I've done.  Focused on keeping my colors clean and massing in the big shapes with this one.

Sweet Ride 6x9 oil on Arches Oil Paper

Found out this bike was made in 1930 and was originally the Island Postman's bike! Now it belongs to one of the sailing instructors on the Island. When he bought it at an estate sale years ago it was an old piece of rust, but over time he's polished it back to life!

Soft Light 9x12 oil on gessobord

Painted with a small plein air group on the island today down by Coquina Beach. One of the many benefits of painting with a group is, when you forget your brushes at home (again?!) you can borrow one from a friend! (My sincere thanks again Marie!)

Shade 6x9 oil on Arches Paper

This morning I set up my easel under the cool shade of those giant Australian Pines beside The Sandbar Restaurant, looking southward. Tired to convey the feeling of "relief from the heat" beneath their branches using values and simple shapes.

Was dropping my son off at sailing camp last week and this sweet little boat caught my eye.

Shadows Along the Path

Shadows Along the Path
9z12 oil on gessobord

Playing with light and shadows along the path to Coquina Beach this Sunday morning. A bit less crowded today than yesterday (the 4th of July!)
