High Surf Advisory

High Surf Advisory
10x10 oil on panel

I know my friends up north are dealing with a monster snow storm this weekend and feel no sympathy whatsoever for us Floridians at the moment, but with temps down here in the 40's we are suffering in our own way! Much too windy and cold to go outside,  I had to make do with some porch-plein air painting this morning. Rough life, I know.

Sailboat Row

Sailboat Row sold
9x12 oil on canvas panel

Painted with the Sarasota Light Chasers group this morning along Bayshore Park.
Loved the sparkle on that water!

Calm Before the Storm

Calm Before the Storm
11x14 oil on panel

Nocturne painting done at the Ft. Desoto Pier in St. Pete during Jason Sacran's workshop last week. We were awakened at 3am later that night to the tornado warning alarms going off on our cell phones. Quite an intense storm, fortunately there was no damage where we were. But now you now the story behind the title!

Learned so much from Jason Sacran's workshop this past weekend, will be absorbing and processing  his wisdom and techniques for the foreseeable future!

A favorite scene of mine at the Cortez Fishing Village... drawn to the water reflections and composition of these particular boats.

Fog Rolling In

Fog Rolling In
9x12 oil on linen

Just as I was putting my brushes down (after painting the day break) these big, soft, purplish clouds began blowing in swiftly from the southeast. Soon the beach was enveloped in a thick, dense fog. An hour later the sky was bright blue and the sun was shining again! As we say down here in Florida, if you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes!

Day Break

Day Break
12x12 oil on canvas

Such a peaceful time of day, just before the sun peeks out in the east and lights the western sky a glow with subtle color shifts. The waves, both yesterday and today, have been unusually big, really quite dramatic!
I'm thinking of doing a much larger studio version of this painting... ideas are percolating!
Stay tuned.
