 I recently traveled to Venice, Italy to paint with a small group of fellow plein air painters from the US and England. It was a lovely, productive week, despite a few cold and rainy days! I'd been to Venice several times before, but never with all my paints, just my sketchbooks. It truly is a magical place, with breath-taking views around every corner! And the food ain't half bad either ;)

The Light Chasers Plein Air Group of Sarasota reconvened this morning after a summer hiatus. We met up at Caspersen Beach in Venice, most well known for it's plentiful sharks teeth. Though I like it best for its lovely warm hued rocks against the cool blue-green sea!

Attempting to paint a sunset (and not have it look cliché) isn't an activity for the faint of heart. I've known this for some time and have thus avoided doing so. However, now that I've got this great studio space to play around in, along with some larger canvases and "a few" photographs on my computer that I've taken of some spectacular sunsets from our back porch, I kinda figured, oh well- here goes nuthin!

Had all of about 30 minutes to go after that soft, rosy, "post-sunset glow" of light on the scrub grasses & dunes this evening before it was too dark to see anything.
