Painted on the north end of Anna Maria Island, this was my piece for the 1st annual Oil Painters of America Great Paint Out Event, which I hosted in conjunction with The Studio at Gulf and Pine. The weather was "iffy" that morning, but (thankfully!) it turned out to be a beautiful day!

Hurricane Irma left a lot of seaweed washed up on the beach. The Anna Maria City Pier sustained considerable damage, but all in all we were extremely fortunate!

After evacuating for Hurricane Irma all last week I was finally able to get outside and paint again this morning over by the Bradenton Beach Marina. The rising sun was casting a lovely glow on the side of these two boats and seemed a worthy enough subject to paint! Because I'm all about that light...

Apparently the real party was the night before, or so I was told by those still hanging out under the blue-tarped tiki hut this Labor Day morning. One guy said he slept all night on the lounge chair there in the foreground. Sure hope this structure is still standing after Hurricane Irma passes through later this week.

Enjoyed a wonderful morning capturing the light with my friend and AWESOME painter 

Stephen Bach today! It was a bit bit windy, but we found some nice shade. I even had the pleasure of introducing him to The Donut Experiment afterwards, just down the street.
